Fr. Phil

REV. PHILIP FLORIO, SJ
Chaplain-Director

Fr. Phil is a priest of the Maryland province of the Society of Jesus -- the Jesuits. He was ordained on June 9, 2001. He comes to Penn Newman with over nine years of experience in campus ministry. He has previously served as Director of Campus Ministry at University of Scranton, and more recently was Chaplain and Assistant Vice President for Student Life at Saint Joseph's University. Fr. Phil was born and raised in Philadelphia, but has lived and worked in Chile, Bolivia, and Mexico. Though he loves to travel, he still prefers the Jersey Shore.

Fr. Phil has a B.S. in political science and an M.S. in training and organizational development from Saint Joseph's University. He went on to obtain an M.A. in Philosophy from Fordham University and Master's degrees in theology and divinity from Boston College. He will complete a doctorate in ministry from the Catholic University of America next year.

Mary Mahon

MARY MAHON
Administrative Assistant

Mary has been Administrative Assistant to the Penn Newman Center for almost twenty years.  A “cradle Catholic,” hailing from northeast Philadelphia, she is the friendly voice on the phone and the welcoming smile for anyone who arrives at the Newman Center.

JEFF KLEIN
Assistant Director/Campus Minister

With ten years of professional campus ministry experience, Jeff Klein brings a strong professional background and a wealth of knowledge to Penn Newman. He provides oversight to the various spiritual, social, and outreach ministries of the Penn Newman Center community. Jeff holds a BA in Psychology and Religious Studies from Allegheny College and an MA in Pastoral Ministry from Duquesne University. He serves as Chair of the Executive Board of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association, a national professional organization. Jeff's hometown is St. Marys in northwestern PA, but he has also lived in Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Buffalo. His interests include football, food and playing guitar.
